Sonja has a Bachelors of Music Education from the University of Kansas. She taught orchestra for four years in public schools ranging from grades 3-12 before returning to Overland Park and focusing on teaching privately. Sonja started violin at a very young age and then switched to the bass in the fourth grade. She has been playing bass since 1999 and began teaching private lessons in 2008. Sonja has played violin and bass with the Olathe Community Orchestra and occasionally accompanies her sister on the cello for gigs at weddings and holiday gatherings.

 

Sonja is experienced at teaching violin, viola, and cello to beginning students and is experienced at teaching bass to beginning to advanced students. Her teaching style incorporates mixing different teaching methods, music genres, and materials with student interest in order to help each student achieve their goals.
